Singapore Math Enrichment & Competition
THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO GRADES 6 – 12
September 17 – December 10, 2025 (13 lessons)
Every Wednesday, 4:00pm – 5:30pm
Maximum of 16 students; minimum of 4 students for each group
Our Math Enrichment Class - Singapore Math & Competition is an after-school program designed to deepen your child's mathematical understanding through the highly effective Singapore Math methodology and prepare them for challenging competitions. Each class's progress is customized to the student's level, fostering strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and a genuine love for math. Students who participate in the full-year program will receive a Year-End Report and a Certificate of Completion, and capable students will be recommended to join the Math Kangaroo competition, where our students from Peoples Christian Academy achieved Top 10% in 2025 through this program.
For Grades 6-8
Grade 6 Singapore Math focuses on solidifying arithmetic with fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratios, including their application in word problems. Students are introduced to basic algebra (expressions, substitution, simple equations), negative numbers, and continue with geometry concepts like angles, area, perimeter of composite figures, volume, speed, and data representation through pie charts.
Grade 7 Singapore Math expands significantly into abstract algebra, covering rational numbers, algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities, and ratio, rate, and proportion in greater detail. Geometry progresses to properties of 2D and 3D shapes, Pythagorean theorem, perimeter and area of more complex figures, volume and surface area, and introduces basic probability and statistics including data analysis and interpretation.
Grade 8 Singapore Math delves into more advanced algebraic manipulation, including exponents, scientific notation, linear equations in two variables (simultaneous equations), and introduces factorization and quadratic equations. Geometry extends to angles with parallel lines, polygons, congruence and similarity, coordinate geometry, volume and surface area of more complex solids like pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres, and further explores data analysis and functions.
For Grade 9 -12
Grade 9-10 Singapore Math builds upon foundational algebra, delving into quadratic equations, polynomials, rational functions, and systems of equations and inequalities. Geometry expands to advanced properties of 2D and 3D shapes, analytical geometry, and an introduction to trigonometry, while data analysis and probability become more complex. This rigorous approach instills a deep conceptual understanding and strong problem-solving skills, providing an excellent foundation for OSSD, IB, and AP programs.
Grade 11-12 Singapore Math progresses into higher-level mathematics, including advanced algebraic manipulation, functions and their transformations, calculus (differentiation and integration), advanced trigonometry, vectors, matrices, and complex numbers. Statistics and probability topics become more in-depth. The emphasis on logical reasoning and abstract thinking cultivated throughout the Singapore Math curriculum thoroughly prepares students for the challenges and rigor of post-secondary studies and specialized programs like OSSD, IB, and AP.
