Introduction to Scratch
THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO GRADES 4 – 5
September 25 – November 27 (8 lessons)
Every Thursday, 4:00pm – 5:30pm
*Please note there are no lessons on September 18 (Parent Information Night), November 6 (PD Day), November 20 (Parent/Teacher Interview), and December 4 (JS Concert)
While the Scratch language is fairly easy to use, fun, and addictive, the language is special for two main reasons:
1. Scratch encourages kids to learn then take risks to adapt what they’ve done.
2. While not everyone wants to be a programmer, everyone benefits from projects that teach creative problem solving.
The ability to imagine, create, play, and reflect are critical skills for young kids. At the conclusion of the sessions, students compile their work to create their own game they can publish and share.
The student needs to have his/her Computer (Mac or Window) to Create your scratch account before the first class.
