Animate this! is a program offered by Compass Point Animation.

Animation is a powerful visual storytelling tool that enables artists of various ages to tell compelling, powerful, fun and engaging stories. Through this interactive and cumulative program, students will explore a variety of animation styles and learn key animation principles that they will apply to several in class and independent projects. Students will work independently and in small groups, and will each create an independent or small group stop motion OR cut out animated film. At the end of this program, students will have all the tools they need to create a short animated film. 


This 9 week program will cover:

  • Animation principles

  • Visual storytelling and cinematics

  • Storyboarding and animatic creation

  • Camera moves, staging and layout

  • Character design 

  • Environment design

  • Stop Motion and Toymation

  • 2D animation basics

  • 3D animation basics 

Students are required to have:

  • A tablet or Chrome Book.

  • Their own sketch book or the instructor could create one for them by stapling cartridge paper together.

  • Animation software for stop motion and image manipulation.  Suggestions are:           

1.     For 3D animation:  Blender (Free)

2.     For Stop Motion Animation and hand drawn animation/Image Manipulation software: Animation Desk – Draw GIF & Cartoon (https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nw9w795cg8q?hl=en-US&gl=US)

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Mr. Luxemburger is an experienced, professional and creative 3D artist, with 10 years of experience in the animation and film industry, and 25 years of experience as a professional visual artist. Mr. Luxemburger has worked on such productions as Rubble and Crew, Saving Me, In The Lost Lands and Desert Warrior. He is the owner, founder and CEO of Compass Point Animation, and has been teaching Art and Animation at several Christian Schools including PCA, King Christian and Innova Academy. Mr. Luxemburger graduated from the Seneca Polytechnic Digital Animation Program, and has taken professional development courses in Animation from Sheridan College, CG Master Academy and Shane Olson. Mr. Luxemburger is a member of Redemption Church Newmarket, and he is the father of three young children. Mr. Luxemburger has been working on his first Animated Feature and continues to refine, pitch and obtain funds for his 90-min Animated Feature.
