Small Fish in a Big Pond

$0.00

By Lia Gang, Grade 10

About This Art Piece: The Artist’s Statement

The reason I called my art piece this is because it represents the saying "The Little Fish in the Big Pond" meaning that sometimes life can make you feel intimidated and small. However, being a part of such a large world filled with large opportunities means that there's an opportunity to fly as high as you can.

I was inspired to create this art piece because I often feel like such a small part in such an intimidating world. I wanted to remind people who often feel emotions like mine to be reminded that this isn't a bad thing. This is what inspired my to create this art piece.

I would like to communicate the feeling of feeling insignificant towards others is an opportunity to grow. If you're a "big fish in a small pond", that means that you often have the mindset that you've already reached your max potential, similar to the idea of a fixed mindset. With that mental barrier in your head, reaching for more is almost impossible. Therefore the theme of always striving to grow is the message I wanted to communicate through this art piece.

The process: Although this art piece was extremely time consuming, I enjoyed seeing my vision come to life one piece at a time. Looking back on this project, I believe the art I enjoy the most are pieces that don't require precise details, but instead are pieces where my creativity can take effect. As this collage project opened the door for the abstract perspective of art, that element was where most of my enjoyment came from during the creation of this art piece.
