Ethereal Dream

$0.00

By Steven Hanna, Grade 11

About This Art Piece: The Artist’s Statement

This painting illustrates an unseen perspective of a lost underwater civilization. Atlantis used to be filled with lots of people who soon abandoned it. Despite this happening, coral flourished all around. The area was encompassed with bright nature giving an ethereal feeling to the once great city. The nature of the sea stayed despite being deserted. The whale shines in the absence of civilization. You might wonder what would have happened to Atlantis if it was never abandoned. I guess we will never know…

I was inspired to create this because when I think about the sea, Atlantis comes to mind. I wanted to depict it in a dreamy way instead of the eerie look that it is usually given. Most people think of Atlantis as a deserted land but I think of a place that has so much potential.

think what I enjoyed most about creating this art piece was the bright colours I was able to use. I want people to see the beauty of Atlantis, to see what has happened to it now that it is has been deserted by humanity. I enjoyed adding all the details piece by piece until it all came together to make the 'Ethereal Dream'.
